Cobram AGS has developed its own Sports Academy which is designed to give aspiring athletes in our local region the best possible chance of succeeding in their chosen sport. The Sports Academy gives students exposure to a high-performance environment where they will have the chance to develop not only an elite skillset, but an elite mindset.
The program is split into two groups: Year Seven and Eight and Year Nine and Ten.
In Year 7 and 8, the core focus is on general skill acquisition/development and strength and conditioning which takes place in our fully furnished school gymnasium. In the classroom, students will explore the theoretical side of what it takes to be an elite athlete,
learning about sports psychology, nutrition, physiology, injury prevention and recovery.
In Year 9 and 10, the core focus is on training session construction, energy systems, coaching styles, improving officiating skills, first aid in sport, sports marketing, and undertaking strength and conditioning program requirements under professional guidance.
Essential things to know about the Academy:
• The Sports Academy is part of our Senior School curriculum and is available as an elective subject to students in Year Seven, Eight,
Nine and Ten.
• The selection of students into the academy considers three areas: sporting ability, academic achievement and interpersonal development. Selection is not based on sporting performance alone. All students must play/compete for a peak body affiliated or community club in their nominated sport.
• Year Seven and Eight students who are accepted into the Sports Academy program will be expected to attend three periods per week during allocated class time.
• Year Nine and Ten students who are accepted into the Sports Academy program will be expected to attend four periods per week during allocated class time.
