Year 11 Melbourne camp
Early in Term Two, our Year 11 students wrapped up an action-packed 'careers camp' adventure around Melbourne and Ballarat. The journey kicked off in Ballarat, where the group visited ACU and Federation University, staying on campus at the Ballarat university. But it wasn't all about future plans; they also got to explore Kryal Castle and were dazzled by the Aura Sound and Light Show at iconic tourist attraction, Sovereign Hill.
Next stop was Melbourne, where the students explored several reputable universities like RMIT in the heart of the city, Swinburne, and Deakin. They got a real taste of campus life and checked out the student digs.
Melbourne had even more fun in store: a behind-the-scenes tour of the Metro Tunnel HQ, gliding on ice at the skating rink, knocking down pins at Strike Bowling, before savouring a delicious dinner in Chinatown, and indulging in some retail therapy.
The grand finale of the camp was attending the VCE and Careers Expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. There, they mingled with hundreds of other students and chatted with university reps from all over Australia about future courses.Even though the camp was go-go-go, it was super rewarding and gave the students an exciting glimpse into potential career pathways after school. As student Teagan Wilkin-Thom enthusiastically told Cobram AGS Careers Advisor Jade Drew on the way back to Cobram, "Best school camp ever!"
